NANCY CAROL HAASE PHILLIPS
1946 – 2009
Nancy was a daughter, wife, mother and friend. She was a nurse, educator, manager, volunteer and a leader. She was warm and caring. She brought attention to herself through the attention she gave to everyone else. She was an inspiration because her spirit was contagious!
Nancy was active with her family and her church. She worked at Grandview Hospital in Sellersville, Pennsylvania as both a staff nurse and the manager of the PACU. Nancy
was a Charter member of PAPAN and has served in several leadership roles including President. She was one of the first Certified Perianesthesia Nurses (CPAN) and encouraged others to join her.
When Nancy first heard her diagnosis of ovarian cancer in June 2005, she made many decisions. As she fought for survival, she was determined to promote an awareness of the signs and symptoms of this silent killer. Nancy walked for Ovarian Cancer three times, wrote articles for the Pulse of PAPAN, distributed magnets with the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, and she spoke and wrote to Primary Physicians and Gastroenterologists.
She attended PAPAN meetings, Perianesthesia PRIDE Conferences and ASPAN National Conferences, and worked in the PACU as she battled this disease. For over four years, she spread the word to be vigilant about the persistent vague signs and symptoms similar to gastrointestinal disease.
Nancy gave so much of herself to everyone. She was truly an inspiration to so many. She demonstrated love and caring. Nancy was a wonderful person!
Nancy passed peacefully on November 30, 2009 with her husband by her side. Her spirit will live on with each person she touched. She will be missed, but not forgotten!
